| Favorite Fishing Experience | Many moons ago, on a small pond in Northampton, I borrowed my step dad's canoe and dragged the darn thing a half mile in through the woods to get to this place. It was worth it though, the bass fishing was the best around, I say was because the draiage pipe was a big culvert pipe about three feet around rotted out, and the place went to hell after that. Anyway, I was fishing topwater using a ultralite rod and reel with 5 Lb. line, bait was a 3/16 black hula popper, I love topwater because of the way the fish smack the lure, always scares the hell out of ya. I was about 20 feet of shore were I put in, and tossing to open water between moss beds, now usually a fish hit the bait, sometimes tossing it right out water, not this time. I was intently watching my lure as I'd pop it a couple of times and stop, when suddenly a hole opened up up the water and it was gone, no slap, smack, or ariel stunts. I yanked back to set the hook and I thought I snagged a log, that was until the canoe started moving at about 5 MPH. Well this went on for about 15 minutes when the fish headed for the weeds and moss. At that time I had all but get out of the canoe to bring the beast in, had to run my hand down the line to where it buried itself in the weeds. Was the prettiest 5.5 Lb. largemouth I'd ever seen............ |
